Merrell Race Recap

Home Trail Advantage is REAL.

The Coyotes had unquestionably their best team showing this week, winning both the High School and Middle School races by their largest margins of the year, and establishing a lead in the chase for a dual-state championship. Many riders outperformed previous results, and it’s safe to say riding near home, on a trail we know well, made the team faster than previous weeks. Thanks for coming to GR, MiSCA!

A million thanks to Jeff Minnerick who spent the night outside in the dark and rain to prepare a stellar lunch for our team, and the MiSCA volunteers. Please show him some Facebook love if you get the chance. That was definitely the best meal we’ve ever had at a race. THANKS JEFF!

I didn’t have a picture of Jeff, so this picture of his son Levi flying through the finish chute will have to do as a stand-in. Great job, Levi. Thanks so much, Jeff!

Team Results

The team won both the Middle School and High School team races this weekend, and we are in a great position going into the final race as we see our first-ever dual-state-championship.

For full team results and series overall standings, be sure to review the official PDF’s from MiSCA: TEAM RESULTS: MERRELL | TEAM SERIES STANDINGS

Podium Finishers

Race Review – Rainy River Bends Park

It rained. It poured. We huddled under tents. But that was just the last hour or two of the day. Prior to that we enjoyed some serious racing, great performances and grilled hamburgers (thanks Hoffmans and Boons!).

Team scores will be coming later this week, so we’re not really sure how the team did overall.

Here are podiums and individual finishers for your enjoyment!  Podiums were postponed until Merrell this weekend while the scoring/timing issues were resolved.

Brighton Rec Race Recap

The Coyotes kept their Middle School winning streak alive this week, despite a depleted squad, at Brighton Recreation area. The team earned a number of podiums and ensured we continued to represent West Michigan with pride. A brief downpour also added some unexpected action to the awards ceremony. Many thanks to those who made the drive to Brighton.

We have a two week break before continuing action at River Bends park in Shelby Township on September 29th. We know it gets old driving across the state, but take heart! Merrell is just around the corner on October 6th. Please plan to race there, even if it’s your first time!

Fort Custer – Race Recap!

Another great weekend for the Coyotes was capped with wins in both the Middle School and High School races for the second race in a row. Our rest time is short this week with another race in Brighton on Sunday the 15th.

Particular highlights from this weekend were several first-time racers for the Coyotes, podiums galore and perfect weather for a race. Our season has started in an undefeated fashion, something we hadn’t even dared to consider when practices started in June.

Our next race is only 6 days away! We will be at Brighton State Rec Area about an hour and 40 minutes east of Grand Rapids. The state park has a campground so you don’t have to spring for a hotel room. We will have a team ride some time on Saturday afternoon. Keep an eye on Remind.com (join here if you haven’t already) and the email Newsletter for more details.
